Why the anti-DDoS queue feels slow (and why that is fine)

By the Editor · 22 April 2026 · back to all notes

Regular reader complaint this week: the anti-DDoS wait page on TorZon feels slow tonight. Real numbers: median wait 35 seconds, tail p95 around 95 seconds. Not slow by any objective standard, but perception is what it is.

The queue is a rate-limiter, not a load-shedder. Its job is to make automated credential-stuffing expensive by holding every request for a real second-count. Human users lose about a minute. Attackers lose the ability to make 10,000 login attempts per minute.

If the queue felt fast every time, it would not be doing its job. The times it feels slow are the times a coordinated bot pressure is being absorbed. Reader instinct is to interpret the slowness as broken. It is actually the healthy signal.
